“Tell us about your first day at something — school, work, as a parent, etc.”
was terrifying! Everyone told me it wasn’t as scary as it seemed… and it turned out… they were… well… WRONG! I mean, I was solely responsible for someone’s entire life! Everything about this tiny human was up to me to maintain! I had to care for their every need! From hygiene, nutrition, self care, rest, emotional regulation, toileting, literally EVERY SINGLE ASPECT OF THEIR LIFE, was in my hands, on MY shoulders. And that is not a small or simple responsibility. It’s not one to take lightly. And making light of it to new parents, can lead to careless mistakes that have big and devastating consequences! These aren’t cars or houses! These are humans. Little bitty, living, breathing beings that we have to not only keep alive, but raise to be well rounded, healthy, and adjusted adults who make a positive impact in their families, friends, and communities lives one day. That’s not “nothing”. That’s SOMETHING. Something, HUGE. And we have to take it as the biggest and most important jobs we will ever do, because, well, IT IS. If that’s not, what else could be? I can’t think of anything, can you?
